14 CMD Commands That Every User Should Know

Though we are made fascinating advancement in Graphical User Interface, Command line is still in the hearts of many people. Here are 14 unique command line commands that every user should know. So lets start:




  1. Quickly open cmd in any folder



Repeatedly writing cd to open a file could be extremely boring if files are located after many subfolders.



To shorten this you can simply go that particular folder and type cmd to that folder location.




  1. Create a secured folder



This avoids deleting your file



md abc



here, abc is the folder name



To remove this secured folder type:



rd abcs




  1. Hide any folder



If you want to hide your important file like passwords, emails, etc you can use this command



attrib +h +s +r foldername



to show hidden file



attrib -h -s -r foldername




  1. Shutdown



To shut down, restart and log off  your pc using cmd use these codes:



To shut down:



shutdown -s



To restart:



shutdown -r



To log off:



shutdown -l



To shutdown with count down



shutdown /s /t 50



To shutdown with count down and warning message:



shutdown /s /t 50 /c “message”

color help

To create a WIFI hotspot:



netsh wlan set hostednetwork mode=allow ssid=abc key=password



To start the hotspot



netsh wlan start hostednetwork



To stop the hotspot:



 netsh wlan stop hostednetwork




  1. Clear the screen



To erases all characters and graphics from the screen



cls




  1. list of all installed programs



To get a list of all the installed programs on the computer:



wmic product get name




  1. take a clip of previous activities



dir | clip copies the directory listing that is output from the dir command to the Windows Clipboard



dir | clip

Pressing f7 on the prompt gives the list of previously used commands



press f7




  1. open webpage using cmd



start www.google.com




  1. Get IP of website



Ping command gives the IP address of that website



ping www.sudip57.com.np

It displays details about your operating system, computer hardware and software components. You see details such as the version of the operating system installed on your computer, the status of your RAM or the processor that you have.

  1. show all wifi passwords



To check the password of the connected wifi use this command.



netsh wlan show profile “wifiname” key=clear
